Silver Arts Award Unit 1A - Identify and Agree Arts Challenge

The Arts Challenge I have decided upon is to enhance my editing ability by editing together a film with a narrative driven strongly by visuals created by somebody else, and without dialogue. I feel this is a worthy challenge because I've found in the past that it's very easy to rely on the dialogue to tell the story from start to finish, with the image only serving to underscore the points, and I want to be able to tell the story entirely using the pictures.

The particular areas of editing I want to focus on are:

  1. The speed of the cuts, as this can help define the emotion and intensity of a scene's action
  2. The arrangement of shots, in order to avoid contravening the rules of continuity editing, as this allows the viewer to avoid being sidetracked by the awkwardness of the edit and focus on the narrative
