Silver Arts Award Unit 1D - Learn About Artists and Arts Organisations Through Participation

The artist I learned about was thanks to one of the Workshops provided by the Rural Media Company, in this case the talk done by Alastair Clark. Alastair came in during the session which took place on 31st October 2013. Prior to then, I thought a producer was heavily involved in the production stage of a film (something I deduced by linking the two words "producer" and "production" together). I discovered this assumption to be misplaced, and found out that the producer's main job was to pitch a film idea to funders, in an attempt to raise the money needed to get the film done, and that they continue to work on a film for the whole of its life, being involved in operations even after the film is released (working on things such as rights and royalties). This was something which interested me greatly, as I'd never really given much thought to how films were maintained once they were out on home video.

Silver Arts Award Unit 1A - Identify and Agree Arts Challenge

The Arts Challenge I have decided upon is to enhance my editing ability by editing together a film with a narrative driven strongly by visuals created by somebody else, and without dialogue. I feel this is a worthy challenge because I've found in the past that it's very easy to rely on the dialogue to tell the story from start to finish, with the image only serving to underscore the points, and I want to be able to tell the story entirely using the pictures.
